On our Upcoming Events page there is an announcement about a walk in Curraghchase Park on Friday, 14 July. This is the first in a series of events called “Second Fridays.” We will gather for a walk in Curraghchase, meeting at the main gate at 7.00pm.
On the second Friday of each month, we will hold some special event, generally a social outing or a special worship service. These events are for the entire Group of parishes. It is a way to get together and also a way to have occasional worship services at times other than Sunday mornings.
This idea grew out of a discussion at a Vestry meeting last January. We were talking about the Diocesan Review, "Forward Together," undertaken in 2016. During the discussion, we talked about having periodic evening worship services — we mentioned the nights of Friday, Saturday, or Sunday. We also talked about having more social activities.
Here are some other ideas I had:
- Maybe once every three months have an Evensong or Songs of Praise service.
- A progressive dinner party: starters in one house, mains at the next, etc.
- A game night.
- A talent show.
If you would be interested in helping with the planning and organisation, please let me know. It’s not that you would need to help with every single one — maybe take your pick. And feel free to suggest an activity or someone else to help!
