Daily Devotions

The Litany

This recording is of the Litany from page 175 of the Church of Ireland Book of Common Prayer. The Litany is a series of petitions to God. It is often prayed during times of emergency, anxiety, or disaster, but can also be used as a way to bring a full range of prayers before God. If you do not have a Prayer Book, you can download the text of the service HERE. Or just follow along by listening.

A Late Evening Prayer Service

This service can be used on any day. It is intended to be said before going to sleep at night. The service is on page 162 of the Church of Ireland’s Book of Common Prayer or can be downloaded here.

Prayer Services for Each Day

A set of simple devotions, about seven minutes long, is posted for each day, Monday through Saturday. They are available in two formats:

  • as audio files, so that you can just listen to them, or say the words along with the speaker, or

  • as sheets so that you can read the service for yourself.

These Daily Devotions are intended as a way to pray each day — perhaps as a way to start the day with a simple prayer service. For each day they follow the same format:

  • An opening sentence from Scripture

  • Opening words from Psalm 51, to cleanse one’s heart and spirit

  • An opening canticle (a song from the Bible)

  • A Reading from Scripture

  • Apostles’ Creed (simple statement of faith)

  • Intercessions. These have a different theme each day and come from the Church of Ireland Book of Common Prayer.

  • A Collect (a prayer)

  • The Lord’s Prayer

  • Closing Words

  • A Blessing

In the Intercessions, there are a series of requests to God, and then a series of Thanksgivings. The recording will pause after each, so that in the silence you can add any particular requests or names of people.

The Opening Words, the Apostles’ Creed, and the Lord’s Prayer are the same each day. The other elements change. For the Reading, you can substitute those specified for the day, available on the Church of Ireland website HERE.
