Mission Sunday is an effort of the Diocese of Limerick to raise donations for a charity each year. Traditionally it takes place on the Last Sunday before Advent. We were not in church on that Sunday, because of Covid-19 restrictions, but we are still having a Mission Sunday!
For our Mission Sunday in 2020 we decided, in January, to support a home-based charity connected with mental health — in hindsight a very appropriate project. We selected two charities working in this area. In the meantime we have learnt that, since March, the demand for their services has in one case increased by 40 % — a sobering thought!
This year, due to the ‘restraints’ caused by the Covid-19 pandemic, we have to alter our means of communication and presentation as follows:
1 Due to the latest ‘lockdown’, we realise that places of worship will be closed until the end of November. Accordingly we decided to extend our ‘time of mission’ to the end of January 2021; rest assured our Treasurer will only be too happy to receive donations up to 26th. Feb 2021!
2 Each church has received a large envelope containing brochures, posters, gift envelopes plus a USB memory stick for a digital presentation, which includes an introduction by Bishop Kenneth. For those parishes with internet facilities, there will also be a presentation on the Diocesan website, YouTube, etc.
3 Again, while we still retained our traditional means of giving, namely by envelope, donations can now also be sent directly to our Treasurer or, digitally by direct debit to our account in the Bank of Ireland, details below.
Account Name: Limerick & Killaloe Diocesan Council for Mission
Bank : Bank of Ireland
Branch : University Branch, Castletroy , Limerick
IBAN: IE44BOFI90459591214337
BIC : BOFIIE2D
4 On account of the charities which we are supporting for Mission Sunday 2020, we have decided to send literature and a digital presentation to each of the schools within the United Dioceses. We leave it entirely up to the Head Teachers whether or not they wish to give their support.
Once again, thank you for your on-going support in these difficult times
Yours Sincerely,
Dorothy Brislane
