Come to the Rectory in Adare and lift your voices in songs of praise. Specifically, we will be trying out hymns from the new Church of Ireland hymnal, Thanks and Praise. We will practise songs that we will be singing at the upcoming special service in Kilmallock on 29th November, as well as others that we might use in later services.
Here are some songs we will try, with links to where you might listen to it beforehand.
#3 – “Advent candles tell their story” – Angel voices. This link provides the tune only.
#26 – “Come, Lord, and meet us in this holy hour” – Highland Cathedral. This link also provides the tune only, on Scottish bagpipes.
#28 – “Come, thou fount of every blessing” – Nettleton
#60 – “I will sing the wondrous story” – Calon Lân (This one is a Welsh tune.)
#64 – “In Christ alone”
#118 & #119 – “People look east” – Besancon. Same tune, different words. We'll try them both.
#223 – “Our God and Father bless” (the Benedictus) – Benedictus. I could not find this tune. This is the Song of Zechariah rewritten as a hymn and set to music.
And, we might try a hymn or two from other sources, including this one from our usual hymnal: #705 – "New songs of celebration render" – Rendez a Dieu
